Economic Policies for Growth, Employment and Poverty Reduction: Case Study of Zambia

Economic Policies for Growth, Employment and Poverty reduction: Case Study of Zambia
United Nations Development Zambia; 2007, 154p.

The report discusses how Zambia can attain the Millennium Development Goals through a faster economic growth coupled with appropriate redistribution policies. It highlights that with the fiscal gains achieved from the recent debt relief, additional poverty reducing expenditures will have come from increases in Official Development Assistance as well as sustainable rise in the fiscal deficit to accommodate the properly structured public investments needed in education, health and infrastructure. The report suggests that a competitive manufacturing sector should be a central element in Zambia’s growth and poverty reduction strategy, as this sector has the potential to generate employment.
